Doula Pam is Now Sacred Journey Childbirth!

The name, Sacred Journey Childbirth, has been brewing in me for a long time. It speaks to the deepest value in my work with families: that the childbearing year from conception through postpartum is a sacred journey initiating moms and dads into the deep work of parenting. As stewards of new life, this journey is deserving of experienced, loving support, and reverence.

I started out exclusively as a birth doula 7 years ago, with my focus on preparing families in the prenatal period for the natural, challenging, and spiritual work of birth: supporting them wholeheartedly through the journey of labor. In the last 2 years I have broadened my support to include extended postpartum care. It has been a pleasure to nurture families in this tender time, providing them with loving care, nutritional support, newborn care, and rest among other things to help them thrive. And so my work has grown to support the whole childbearing year.

Each family walks their own journey. At whatever point I join them, I take care to honor the road they have already travelled--sometimes, a road of infertility struggles, sometimes a road of welcome or apprehensive surprise. Then we can look forward together to where they are headed--both in the kind of birth they are hoping for and in their new life as parents.

A significant and often overlooked part of birth and postpartum preparation is preparing as a couple for how much relationship dynamics, roles, and expectations will change. I love supporting my clients to have the most supported birth experience possible, and I also want to see them transition as smoothly as possible into their new roles as a parenting team: nourishing a happy healthy family going forward.

This is the sacred journey–an initiation process that starts well before birth as mothers and parents begin to make personal choices for their gestating baby. I am so honored to do this work of uplifting the birth of a baby and the birth of a family by providing comprehensive support and advocacy through all the phases of the childbearing year. My mission is to see families thrive in this precious season in the hope that they will continue to thrive as they watch their little one(s) grow!
